Took place in Rangipo Forest

At the end of September a fire was started when the cross arm of a power pole broke off , igniting vegetation below it when contact was made.  The fire burnt approximately 40 hectares of braken fern amongst regenerating native shrub hardwood species, such as five finger, and some regenerating pine.

The fire was controlled by NZFM staff, Turangi Rural Fire Force, Turangi Fire Brigade and two helicopters, one each from HeliServices and Lakeview Helicopters.
