October Update - NZFM Cyclone Response

The salvage harvest response to the wind damaging events of Cyclone Gabrielle has progressed well over the last few months. NZFM is now employing 40 crews within our contract harvesting workforce and trucking capacity has increased as forecast to transport the recoverable log volume to market.

As of the end of September 2023, the majority (86%) of the recovered volume is now being exported from four different ports across the North Island, as shown below.

Progress on the salvage response is going well and the uplift of wind damaged stems has increased each month. We are nearing the peak of our operations and hope to maintain this level of harvesting for the coming months. The pie chart below shows the progression of the salvage response since February. We are almost at the half way point!

There is a significant number of logging trucks using Kiko Road in Lake Taupo Forest and this will continue to be the case for some time. Because of the health and safety risks this presents, Kiko Road remains closed to all non-work access. This will be will be reviewed periodically.

Ensuring the forest remains a safe working environment is imperative and we appreciate the cooperation and support of the local community to keep everyone safe.
